ORKESTAR OPERE HRVATSKOG NARODNOG KAZALIŠTA U SPLITU - tradicija kazališta u Splitu seže u 15. stoljeće. Sedamdesetih godina prošlog stoljeća tradiciju gradske glazbe nastavlja Narodna glazba (1880). No pravi procvat Split doživljava tek buđenjem narodne svijesti i povezano s tim gradnjom i otvaranjem velikog opernog kazališta 1893. Skupina ljubitelja opere i operete osniva 1928. Gradsku operu i operetu. Nakon velikih preuređenja 1940. novi ansambl počinje s radom pod umjetničkim vodstvom Ive Tijardovića. Godine 1946. utemeljen je Koncertni ured pri Operi Hrvatskog narodnog kazališta u Splitu, a 1954. godine osnivaju se Splitske ljetne priredbe, koje se od 1968. zovu Splitsko ljeto. Njihova realizacija u velikoj je mjeri oslonjena na ansambl Orkestra Opere Hrvatskog narodnog kazališta u Splitu. Orkestar kontinuirano priređuje samostalne simfonijske koncerte, čime dobiva novo značenje i punu afirmaciju vodeće glazbene i operne kuće južne Hrvatske.

CROATIAN NATIONAL THEATRE (HNK) OPERA ORCHESTRA in SPLIT - the theatre tradition in Split goes back to the 15. century. During the seventies of the previous century, the National music (1880) carries the urban musical tradition. However, it is the awakening of national awareness, tied with the building and opening of the grand opera theatre in 1893, that makes Split truly flourish. In 1928, a group of opera and operetta lovers founds the City Opera and Operetta. After large rearrangements, in 1940. a new ensemble starts with its work under the art direction of Ivo Tijardović. In 1946, the Split HNK Opera Concert Office is established, while in 1954. the Split Summer Festivities are organized, changing their name into the Split Summer in 1968. Their realization has been closely linked to the Split HNK orchestra ensemble. The orchestra continues to perform symphonic concerts, thus ensuring itself a new meaning and full affirmation as the southern Croatia's leading opera house.
