DUBROVAČKI SIMFONIJSKI
ORKESTAR - osnovan je 24. kolovoza l925. pod imenom Dubrovačka
filharmonija. Od 1946. nosi naziv Gradski orkestar, 1992.
mijenja ime u Festivalski orkestar, a od 1995. ustalio se
naziv Dubrovački simfonijski orkestar. Glazba koju orkestar
njeguje može se ponajbolje odrediti vrlo bogatom, sedam stoljeća
starom dubrovačkom glazbenom tradicijom. Gradski orkestar
postupno dobiva organizacijsku strukturu profesionalne ustanove
te njegovo djelovanje postaje usko povezano s festivalskim
manifestacijama Dubrovačkih ljetnih igara. Veliku pozornost
posvećuje dubrovačkim klasicima iz 18. stoljeća, skladateljima
Luki Sorkočeviću i Ivanu Mani Jarnoviću te je ujedno glavni
nositelj glazbenih zbivanja u Dubrovniku. S orkestrom su nastupali
najpoznatiji hrvatski i svjetski dirigenti i solisti: Lovro
pl. Matačić, Zubin Mehta, Kiril Kondrašin, Ernst Marzendorfer,
Henryk Szeryng, Mstislav Rostropovič, Antonio Janigro, Kyril
Kondrašin, Yehudi Menuhin, David Oistrach, Sviatoslav Richter
i mnogi drugi.

DUBROVNIK SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA
- founded on August 24th, 1925, under the name of 'The Dubrovnik
Philharmonic'. In 1946, it was renamed to 'The City Orchestra',
then to 'The Festival Orchestra' in 1992, until it finally
settled as 'The Dubrovnik Symphonic Orchestra' in 1995. Its
repertoire is notably influenced by the rich, seven centuries
old musical tradition of the town of Dubrovnik. 'The City
Orchestra' gradually attained the structure of a professional
institution and became closely linked to the event known as
'The Dubrovnik Summer Festival'. The orchestra often pays
tribute to Dubrovnik's 18th century classics - composers Luka
Sorkočević and Ivan Mane Jarnović. It is also mainly responsible
for the musical events in Dubrovnik. Some of the greatest
Croatian and foreign conductors and soloists have worked with
the orchestra, such as: Lovro pl. Matačić, Zubin Mehta, Kyril
Kondrashin, Ernst Marzendorfer, Henryk Szeryng, Mstislav Rostropovich,
Antonio Janigro, Yehudi Menuhin, David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav
Richter and many others.
